Expert Bike Service

Keep Your Shifting Crisp and Your Braking Tight

The drivetrain and braking systems are the nervous system of your bicycle. When they are dialed in, they react instantly to your input, allowing you to focus purely on the trail or road ahead. But when a derailleur hesitates, or a brake lever feels mushy, it breaks your rhythm and confidence. At Gettysburg Bicycle, we treat these mechanical systems with the same level of attention and care they require. We understand that whether you are commuting through Adams County or racing in the Michaux Endurance Series, you need your equipment to be absolutely reliable.

Our service department is staffed by experts who understand the evolution of cycling technology. We don’t just bolt parts on; we diagnose the root cause of performance issues. We handle everything from the “Basic Tune Up” that keeps a family bike rolling smoothly to the complex needs of modern hydraulic systems and 1x drivetrains. We apply the same level of care to a kid’s first bike as we do to a high-end race machine because we know that a safe, well-tuned bike is the key to falling in love with the sport.

What We Service (and Upgrade) Daily

Your drivetrain endures incredible stress, especially on the hills and trails of our region. Chains stretch, cables fatigue, and brake pads wear down. Ignoring these small changes can lead to expensive damage later, such as worn-out chainrings or scored rotors. Our technicians are here to help you stay ahead of the wear curve. We provide transparent assessments and precise repairs to keep your bike functioning as it was designed to.

We are fully equipped to service the components found on the brands we sell, including industry leaders like Shimano and SRAM. Whether you need a simple adjustment to get through the season or a complete drivetrain swap to upgrade your gearing, we have the tools and the inventory to make it happen. We also utilize resources like locally.com to show you exactly what parts we have in stock, ensuring you aren’t waiting weeks for a simple repair.

WE RIDE TOO

We Ride What We Wrench

There is a distinct difference between a mechanic who just reads a manual and one who puts their gear to the test on the same local trails you ride. At Gettysburg Bicycle & Fitness, our expertise is rooted in genuine passion and a competitive history. Our owner, Jes Stith, raced competitively for over a decade, and our staff includes champions like Cheryl Sornson. We know exactly what it feels like when a derailleur hanger is slightly bent or when a brake rotor is glazed because we have been there.

We bring that rider’s perspective to every repair. We use high-quality lubricants and genuine replacement parts from reputable brands such as Motorex, Finish Line, Shimano, and SRAM to ensure optimal longevity. When you entrust your bike to us, you are getting a solution based on over thirty years of experience in the cycling industry. We treat your bike with the same attention to detail that we apply to our own machines because we want you to have “more fun on the trail” and “stay stronger longer”.

Get Your Ride Back in Gear

Don’t let a noisy chain or a rubbing brake rotor ruin your next adventure. Mechanical issues rarely fix themselves; in fact, they usually get worse—and more expensive—if ignored. Whether you need a “Basic Tune Up” to lubricate the chain and check the bolts, or a “Major Tune Up” that involves a full teardown and rebuild, we are here to help.

We invite you to bring your bike in for an assessment. We will explain exactly what is going on with your drivetrain or brakes and provide a clear path to fixing it. Our goal is to be your trusted partner in cycling, ensuring that “We keep you rolling” safely and efficiently every time you head out the door. Stop in and let us help you get back to the simple joy of the ride.

FAQS

FAQ: Brake & Drivetrain

  • Can you work on all drivetrain brands?

Yes, we have extensive experience working with the major drivetrain manufacturers found on quality bicycles. We are authorized dealers for bicycles equipped with Shimano and SRAM systems, which comprise the vast majority of the market. Whether you are riding a road bike with a traditional 2x11 drivetrain, a modern gravel bike with a 1x setup, or a mountain bike equipped with the latest 12-speed Eagle technology, our technicians understand the specific pull ratios and spacing requirements to ensure they shift perfectly. We also stay current with the rapid evolution of cycling technology.

We are adept at servicing electronic shifting systems, which are becoming increasingly common on high-end models from brands such as Trek, Specialized, Pivot, and Yeti. However, it is important to note a specific limitation regarding electric bicycles (e-bikes). While we are fully equipped to service the mechanical drivetrains (chains, cassettes, derailleurs) of most bikes, we only service the electrical motor and battery components of the e-bike brands we sell. If you have an e-bike from a brand we do not carry, we are happy to adjust your gears (“Front and Rear Gear Adjustment”) and brakes (“Front and Rear Brake Adjustment”), but we cannot diagnose motor failures or battery issues, and we require that the battery be removed prior to service.

  • Do I need an appointment for adjustments?

For most mechanical services, such as a “Front and Rear Gear Adjustment” or a standard tune-up, an appointment is generally not required for drop-off. We operate our service department with the goal of getting you back on the road as efficiently as possible. You can bring your bike in during our regular business hours, and we will perform a triage assessment. We offer a tiered tune-up menu, consisting of Basic ($69.99), Standard ($99.99), and Major ($249.99) options.

Our turnaround times depend on the current volume of work in the shop. However, there are exceptions where calling ahead is highly recommended. If you require specialized “Expert Bike Fitting” services, these are strictly by appointment only to ensure we can dedicate the necessary time to your biomechanics. Additionally, if you have a complex suspension issue requiring a “Rear Shock Overhaul” or a “Fork Overhaul,” or if you need a specific part ordered, contacting us first can save you time and effort. For standard brake and gear issues, simply stop by, and we will get your bike into the queue to be serviced by our expert team.

  • What if I need new parts installed?

We are fully stocked and prepared to handle component replacements and upgrades. As a full-service shop, we carry a robust inventory of “Bike Parts” and “Cycling Accessories” to cover the most common repair needs. If your chain is stretched, your cassette teeth are hooked, or your brake pads are worn down to the metal, we likely have the replacement parts from brands like Shimano, SRAM, or Bontrager on our shelves right now. We also utilize the locally.com platform, which allows you to see a significant portion of our in-stock inventory online. If you are looking for a specific upgrade—such as switching to a wider range cassette for climbing or installing a new hydraulic disc brake caliper—we can perform the “Install Chain” or “Install Disc Brake” service professionally. Buying parts from us ensures compatibility, as the world of bicycle standards can be complex. Our expertise ensures you purchase the right part for your specific frame. If a specific niche part is not in stock, we have direct accounts with major distributors and can usually order it for quick delivery.
